In my painting the 'Vertigo of Nostalgia' we see a shoreline scattered with classical framed paintings of shipwrecks. The tides have drawn them in and out of the ocean, each time dashing the paintings again onto the rocks. The paintings represent memories being recalled again and again. This artwork explores the notion of memory, sentimentality and nostalgia. As we recall memories and reflect through time , we distort and edit our reflections and contrive a new past that can for me have a reeling disorienting effect, a kind of shifting narrative that changes each time the memory is recalled.
