Artwork Description

Beware the deceiver, a fox in sheep’s clothing preying on the naivety of the innocent. How easily betrayal can sometimes be delivered with a comforting smile.

A portrait of a young woman standing at a 3/4 angle tilting her right side away from the viewer. The drawing is in graphite pencil, with a technique of realism, although there are elements of surrealism in the portrait. The woman is holding a rabbit as though nursed in her arms, while her long flowing hair comes down over her shoulder and morphs into a fox which has bitten down into the rabbit. Apart from this act of violence from the fox, the portrait conveys a sense of happiness and calm with the woman smiling and standing in a relaxed pose, holding the rabbit in a nurturing way.

Artist Bio

Attained Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Art from Griffith University, Queensland College of Art in 2003.

The Psyche, The Dreamscape, and The Australian Soul.

My practice is an ongoing visual reflection on the human psyche, focusing on emotion, identity, and the individual's place in the world. I explore these themes through surreal figurative works, where subjects bridge the gap between reality and fantasy.

Recently, this lens has expanded to incorporate Australiana themes, exploring the unique spirit of the Australian landscape and culture within my dreamscapes. Through this work, I aim to delve into the relationship between mortality and spirituality, creating beauty in the dialogue between the seen and unseen.
