This artwork is from a series that investigates our collective engagement with the modern world. This piece presents a brief history of art, drawing together imagery from a variety of recognisable sources. The distinction between 'high' and 'low' art has been blurred and we consider the concept of taste and quality. A more traditional representation of Rodin's 'The Thinker' shares the same space with a crystal dolphin statue and cheap porcelain clown in a heavily engineered still-life construction. Concepts of commercialism and commodity are referenced in the imagined 'Venus of Willendorf' bottle opener and very real 'Venus de Milo' keychain and 'David' bobble-head. In this case all of the objects are awarded similar status, so what makes one artwork more valuable and respectable than another?
