Artist Bio

Damion Fuller is a ceramic artist and surfer based on the north coast of New South Wales, Australia. A passionate amateur surf historian and collector of vintage surfboards, his work is a celebration of the golden era of surfing in the early 1970s—particularly in Hawaii, California, and Australia.

Through his large ceramic vessels, Fuller captures the eccentric personalities, carefree lifestyle, and sense of freedom that defined this period. His figures, with their exaggerated forms and distinctive style, are an homage to the era’s unique characters, blending elements of different individuals into a single narrative. Working three-dimensionally, he sketches figures directly onto the surface of his pots before carving them into the clay using a cobalt slip he makes himself.

Fuller’s ceramics also incorporate design elements from classic surfboards, particularly the iconic single-fin pintail shape that was prevalent in the 1970s. While his aesthetic is rooted in nostalgia, he embraces contemporary materials and firing techniques to create pieces that feel both timeless and modern.

Each of Fuller’s works tells a story—capturing a moment, a personality, or a scene from a defining period in surf culture. His goal is to evoke a relaxed coastal charm, creating ceramics that feel perfectly at home in a laid-back surf shack by the sea.
