Artwork Description

Awards | 2026 Australian Landscape Photography Awards Runner Up

Artist Statement |
Evening light stretched across the fields, brushing the canola with a soft glow that felt almost unreal. The old farmhouse sat quietly in the distance—its weathered walls and rusted roof catching the last warmth of the day.

I’ve always loved this time of year, when the fields bloom like liquid gold and the air feels still enough to hold the light. The scent of canola lingers, sharp yet sweet, carried by a gentle breeze that moves through the crops in waves.

As the sky shifted from blue to rose, the land seemed to exhale. There was a calmness here—something steady and familiar, as if time had slowed just long enough for the colour to settle in.

Sometimes it’s the simplest moments, standing at the edge of a field watching day give way to night, that remind me why I photograph at all.
