Artwork Description

This painting is part of a series inspired by my personal bottle collection, which I’ve built over time out of a fascination with the way light moves through glass and how these objects interact visually when grouped together. I’ve always been drawn to the quiet elegance of still life painting, especially the way modern women artists have reinterpreted the genre with contemporary sensibilities. In creating this work, I wanted to honour that tradition while bringing my own perspective to it—elevating ordinary objects through careful observation and composition.
My artistic goal was to explore the green-blue colour range and to capture the subtle reflections of the bottles on the tiled surface. I began with a photograph taken in my home using a selection of bottles from my collection, which I then translated into oil paint using glazing techniques. Layer by layer, the painting evolved into a more tactile, high-contrast piece, and I allowed myself to lean into that direction as it developed. The result is both a study of colour and form, and a personal reflection on the quiet beauty of everyday objects.

Artist Bio

Hi! I'm an oil painter, and I'm based in Coffs Harbour Australia.

I love painting still life, people and the natural world. My influences change per series, but in general I love the modernists and modern Australian female still life artists in particular. My training was grounded in the discipline of still life and it's probably my enduring love, but I explore other genres regularly.

I loosely group artworks into thematic series. I have exhibited in various galleries across Australia.

The grand concepts I explore across all my series are about joy, and the lovely ephemeral beauty of our lives.
