Mixed Media on paper
Signed on the front.
Inspiration
I give you the Queen of Pop! She has completely reinvented her image and music to move along with the times, as well as breaking into a male dominated scene of the 80โs! She continuously pushes boundaries and defies expectations, and embraced both the art and fashion world alongside her dazzling music career. I mean who else can you recognise from the silhouette of their bra?! Sheโs the Queen of self care, the queen of reinvention, and the queen of making big statements (Iโm looking at that kiss with Britney, no one expected that!).
Process
To create these original paintings, I first prep the paper with a collage of various vintage papers such as musical scores, comic books, dictionaries, encyclopaedias and biographies. The second layer is a clear gesso base to draw on top of then a charcoal sketch mapping out the lights and darks of the portrait, first with vine charcoal and secondly with compressed charcoal and charcoal pencils. This is then sealed with spray fixative, and time for the final details using Winsor & Newton oil paints to make the portrait pop and add contrast between the person and the background. Once Iโm fully happy with the portrait I then fill the remaining area with either black or white acrylic paint and spray paint on the playing card details! Iโm so happy with how they look I hope you love them as much as I do xx
