DJ Tigerlily has the most incredible blue wig for when she is performing on stage at nightclubs and festivals, and she is the poster child for having a balance and looking after your boys while being a night owl and around alcohol while working! She has spoken at length about the importance of putting your body first and not giving into temptation in order to keep pushing yourself artistically and performing at your best.
I chose to paint her as I love the energy she has while on stage, and wanted to show off that hair! It was so much fun to use vibrant colours compared to my usual greyscale palette, and doing the abstract background was so much fun playing with different paintbrushes and blue tones.
To create this portrait I prepped the canvas with acrylic paint and had a lot of fun with different blues and a splash of pink to make it pop, then I created a stencil made of collaged sheet music and a vintage dictionary to paint the portrait on top of. I glued down the stencil using binder medium then painted DJ Tigerlily on top leaving some of the collage exposed.
I created Tigerlily as part of the Get Messy Collection at the start of 2022, where I created a different painting every day for 100 days in order to challenge myself and to develop my artistic style.
