Artwork Description

Red Feelings

I’ve mentioned in my bio that art has been an outlet for me as I navigate infertility and loss.

It might seem strange to include a black, white and pink painting in a series called Red Feelings, but this painting (along with the others in my Red Feelings series) is very raw, and was painted while going through my fourth miscarriage. It’s my most recent in this series, and I’d like to think that the addition of pink might indicate that hope is returning.

When creating this series, I let go of any ideas I had about what my art ‘should’ look like, and simply painted what I was feeling -my grief, pain, frustration, and fear.

While my inspiration came from pregnancy loss, my hope is that the emotions in this piece speak to others experiencing complex and strong emotions of any kind.

Artist Bio

I live in Canberra with my beautiful wife, and two fur children (but will always be a West Australian at heart).

Art has been a powerful form of expression for me as I navigate the challenges of anxiety, depression, infertility and loss. Through painting, I have reclaimed joy, and found beauty and light amid the the chaos and sadness.

I feel so much pride and a sense of catharsis as I see each layer come together to embody my thoughts and feelings.
My hope is that others will identify with the emotions I felt as I painted, and will also feel some of that joy and hope emerging from the chaos.
