Artwork Description

This painting juxtaposes classical art with modern street aesthetics, featuring a grayscale bust of an ancient, bearded man against a vibrant backdrop of pink and orange graffiti. The bust is marked by a bold black "X" over one eye with paint dripping down, symbolizing a blend of defacement and reinvention. The fragmented left side of the head adds a sense of decay and urban grit. This contrast highlights the tension between the timelessness of classical forms and the raw, ephemeral nature of graffiti.

Artist Bio

“I search for the realness, the real feeling of a subject, all the texture around it... I always want to see the third dimension of something... I want to come alive with the object.”
- Andrew Wyeth

So… what do I want to say with my art?
“HEY, look with your eyes not with your hands!”
- My older brother to me, all the time.

I’m the type of person that gets captivated by texture. My eyes can spend hours hovering over miniscule details and getting wowed nuanced changes in texture, lighting and colour. There’s much to get lost in amongst the layers, and I constantly look for ways to explore those layers.

My body of work attempts to create a sense of tactility by converging 3D elements, woodworking, spray painting and palette knife-smooshing with the nostalgic imagery of pop cultural icons, cult-favourite brands and narrative driven imagery. I look beyond paint to create depth and texture much like a sculpture but still limit myself within the confines of a wooden frame to still be a painting – with the goal of making visually tactile art.
My materials are recycled where possible and made entirely by myself.

"Danish, an Australian illustrator, creates striking, colourful and punchy scenes with emotive and motion-rich characters, steeped in a neo-urban art vibe. He uses splashes of colour, tastefully selected sample imagery and experimental style combinations to fuse captivating and gutsy portraits and gorgeously modern scenes."
