This classical Greek mask still life is given the tempura treatment, bringing a shinyness to the whole painting. European scene on a sunny day, focusing on the architecture of the background. Gum trees are an icon of Australia landscape. I have always been interested in their twisting branches, soft skin and contrasting colours. This painting represents a single gum tree, strongly standing in front of a sunlit backdrop. Quebec City has many great houses and the autumn scenery can be breathtaking. I tried to capture the contrast between the general Canadian cold and the warm colours of autumn.
