This piece is about the consciousness that lies within a single synapse of a brain's nervous system. A synapse is a structure that allows a neuron to pass an electrical or chemical signal to another neuron, and so on and so on. What would the landscape of that world look like, as the particles or our brains talk to each other? This is my imagining of that world.
This world has been created piece by piece, layer by layer. Each mark, pour, splash and dot represents a mood, an instinct, a meditation of my mind whilst wondering about this universe we are in. Each carefully cut out mixed media piece was created with a smooth, constant rhythm. I have used acrylic paint, paper, ink, transparent glazes and my own hand crafted marbled rice paper. Everything has been placed spontaneously, yet each piece required planning and focus to create a moment later on to play with. It is a communication or marks and moments, seemingly unrelated, and yet connecting together like a jigsaw puzzle.
This work has many layers of varnish to seal all layers in and protect it for years to come.
It is completely ready to hang, and already inset into a white float frame.
In Situ photo is not exactly to scale, but it's pretty darn close.
