Artwork Description

I am inspired by nature mostly. This is one of the cormorants I enjoyed watching during my kayaking on Brisbane Water on the Central Coast

Artist Bio

Hi there art lovers.
My artwork is inspired by a lifelong appreciation of beauty - in nature, in everyday moments and in the expressive possibilities of art.
I am drawn to subjects that invite harmony, curiosity, emotion and a sense of connection, from landscapes, birds and animals or more whimsical imagery.
I work in acrylics, watercolour and oils (for those patient enough to let it cure). Each material allows me to explore different subjects like light, shifts of colour, depth and expression. I enjoy allowing each subject to suggest its own mood and story rather than restricting myself to one particular style.

Before devoting time to my art practice, I was a mental health counsellor. That experience developed qualities that continue to influence my work as an artist - careful observation, empathy and appreciation of individual perspectives. I attentively use small details to bring a subject to life, especially when painting animals and commissioned pet portraits where capturing personality and character is as important as creating a good likeness.

I welcome commissions and enjoy working with clients to create artworks that have a personal meaning while retaining an artistic and expressive quality. Insta: daria.coast.art
