Oil on wood, ready to hang.
Signed on the front.
When I paint horses, I try to capture their intelligence and brooding personality. In the case of this portrait, the background was an important aspect; the darkness leaves us contemplating about the location of the horse. The overall effect forces us to wonder whether the horse is staring at something or just simply thinking. To attain form, I utilised glazing, with transparent washes, thus creating a sheen which is apparent on horses with short hair.
One can view its character as melancholy, or introspective boldness.
The painting comes framed, though the actual frame varies from the one pictured.
