Artwork Description

This is a representation of the country where I have walked and where my ancestors have walk for thousands of years.

Aboriginal maps have been used by people to depict country and map out the steps of the ancestors since the beginning of time. The idea of using these maps as 'art' in the Western sense is a new adaptation to Western culture and environments. However, the original purpose of this tradition still survives and it lives in us, the descendants of the people who have never surrendered and never ceded.

Artist Bio

I am a Wiradjuri artist from the Wellington area of NSW. My work is Aboriginal contemporary with an emphasis on the use of color to convey my cultural connection and my life experiences.
My art is deeply rooted in my experiences as a Wiradjuri man, a father, a son and a member of the urban Aboriginal community of Sydney’s inner west. Within the urban context, I prefer to produce pieces which reflect my environment. I use recycled materials which come from an urban environment in my art. This is based on the Aboriginal tradition of only using what you need from your environment.
In March 2018, I had the honor of being made a member of Boomalli Aboriginal Art Co-op.
