Darren King is a mixed media artist based near Wollongong on the NSW South Coast. His colourful, chaotic pieces are held in private collections across Australia and internationally.
Trained in Fine Arts, cartooning, illustration, graphic design, and screen printing, Darren’s work fuses elements from each of these practices into a unique, energetic style. Recently, he has rediscovered collage, and creates a selection of paintings made entirely from recycled paper. Discarded magazines, junk mail, maps, paper bags, and old books are all harvested for interesting elements, which combine together to form original, vibrant, and textural artworks.
Most of Darren’s pieces are colourful and richly layered, often combining semi-transparent elements and various techniques to produce fun, busy, and visually dynamic compositions.
Heavily influenced by pop culture, music, and nostalgia, Darren’s art seeks to bring beauty to the everyday — and to revive long-forgotten favourites.
