Artwork Description

Drawing on paper

Signed on the front.

My artwork depicts a scene from the round 7 clash of the 1909 VFL season between Geelong & University played at the East Melbourne Cricket Ground.
It was the third time that the two clubs had met in VFL competition with the University club holding a two win advantage going into the clash.
The players fought hard on this day in the shadows of the MCG and several were forced to leave the ground after sustaining injuries. Geelong club secretary, Charles Brownlow, was heard saying after the match that it was the dirtiest game he had witnessed in all his years in football.

My original hand drawn artworks are produced by adding many layers of coloured pencil until a rich , full image has been achieved.
I feel that my football history art breathes life into the black & white record of the past and allows the contemporary viewer an opportunity to witness the moment as it would have appeared to those who were there.
