With a degree in Visual Arts and further qualifications in art education, Dave spent the 90’s exhibiting his work and teaching art at TAFE and high schools in the Manning. He spent time travelling overseas whilst always painting and drawing. Although never truly putting down the paintbrush, Dave chose to enter the corporate world for a few decades, pursuing a successful career to provide for his family. After leaving his role in 2021, it felt timely to pursue his passion.
Dave’s recently exhibited abstract landscape works arose from his experiences of motorbike riding in central Australia, 2023. The organic shapes and rich colour saturation of the desert reignited his motivation to paint at full force. He continues to work largely from this inspiration, along with new adventures, landscapes and seascapes of home.
With printmaking roots, he tends to treat the painting surface with multiple translucent layers, supported with linear elements. Ultimately Dave enjoys the relationship he can create between those components and heightened landscape colour palette.
Working in acrylic speaks to his “lack of patience” when painting layers, pushing the surface and drying quickly. Making marks that represent simplified natural forms is his complete inspiration when constructing a composition.
