DAVID BENSON – BIOGRAPHYGraduated 1975 National Art School, Paddington, received Diploma of Art in Painting and Printmaking. 1976-79 travelled to Bali, India and Nepal, studying, surfing and collecting Asian art and Sculptures. In 1979 he joined Hare Krsna temple in Nepal, later he returned to Sydney to pursue his life as an artist and his spiritual journey. He worked as an art dealer whilst living in the Manly and North Sydney Temples and exhibited his screen prints with Brett Whitely and Mark Chagall at the Mona Vale Gallery. In The following years David opened an Art Gallery in North Sydney, acted as an Agent for Pro Hart, David and Lenore Boyd, Ken Johnston amongst others.
Also opened Benson Fine Art in Nelson Bay and Maitland and had a one man show at Michael Commerford Gallery in Rushcutters Bay where he is still currently represented. In 1990 he moved to Victoria to pursue his solo artist career, he exhibited at Kudos in Lorne and The Convent Gallery in Daylesford, and was then commissioned by Country Road Australia, Line 7 and Nutra metics.
1997 David moved to Milton on the south coast of NSW. A sea change helps his painting and he opens a successful Studio/Gallery. His main body of works originates in Milton, here he explores spiritual topics through his art as well as sea landscapes.In 2004 David moved to the northern rivers to pursue his spiritual life at the Hare Krsna Community in Murwillumbah, he then set up Studio 88 in the Main St where promotes his work and provides a space for other creatives. David’s work is about transformation! Bhakti Yoga means to link up, so
his yoga practice and his artwork becomes an expression of his
devotional life. Spiritual Life means Sat cit ananda, external knowledge and bliss, which can be realized by the mystic process of chanting Krsna’s names.
