Urban Peddler

This painting reflects both my love for bikes and streetscapes. I am captivated by the colours in the urban environment and the bicycle is like a figure in the city environment. In this scene it was the aqua green wall contrasted against the blue and red bike which fascinated me as an artist.

I have been painting my environment for over 20 years and have exhibited many times with galleries over Australia. My focus is on capturing the reality of my immediate environment in the suburbs of Melbourne and sometimes in the coastal environment while travelling. I paint predominantly in watercolour and I feel like I have innovated a unique style within this medium. My aim when painting is to bring out the abstract qualities of the picture even though I work as a realist painter. For me, the paint must do the talking and I try to avoid over working my scenes with too much embellishment. As a painter I like to examine our modern world, it's humour, it's banality and it's wonder.
