Liliana was a quiet, introverted, girl of elegant style. Lucas, an artist painted portraits along the cobblestone roads at the eye of Florence of the Piazza de Michelangelo, overlooking the Ponte Vecchio.
Liliana was a 19 year old of a noble Spanish family. With curly brunette hair, a slim figure she wore slim leg jeans, a knitted jumper. Walking with her parents on their holiday in the summer, she walked along Via de' Tornabuoni and began talking to Lucas about his art and the richness of his simple but crafted style. They spoke for a short time but immediately she was enchanted by his quiet charisma. She imagined in that moment men with an almost boyish charm only existed in myth rather than reality. She took his portrait and went along.
Time passed and having finished her high school studies she returned to Italy but this time alone. Lucas was at the very same street corner, albeit with longer hair and a stronger stance.
She returned to Spain and then to London, writing to the street corner store where Lucas every morning ask if their had been mail. Notes, letters and postcards were written.
She asked him to come to London to live with her, whilst she completed her studies.
He had little money, and sold all his material goods, with which he bought a cheap, rust trained bicycle, that crooked as the gears engaged with every pedal.
He cycled for days and nights from Italy to London leading him through hills and valleys, in darkness and sunshine, in the bitter cold.
