I love going to church in the South Pacific - not for the sermons so much, but for the glorious, soaring voices of an island congregation. And to photograph the children. These three kids were on their way to a small, village church in Tonga dressed in their Sunday best when I asked them if they knew how to dance and who had the best moves........we were lucky to make the service.

Most of us who have travelled the South Pacific have returned with experiences fondly recalled - of splashing in the sparkling waters surrounding one of its many islands, of sitting on a pristine beach lined with palm trees at sunset, of the fascinating insights we've been given into its remarkable cultures, of the laughter of its children and the warmth of the people we met during our journey.

International photographer David Kirkland has spent more than 20 years wandering the South Pacific with a camera in hand and, to date, 14 books have been published of his travels.
