Artwork Description

This is a portrait of David’s wife Kat Fraser and their child, within the limbo of lockdown. David’s artworks contain a temporal narrative, with past, present and future flowing from left to right. “Mother and child sit firmly in the stagnant present, focused on the unknown future of tomorrow and on the pandemic’s ill-defined ‘new normal’. The repetitive sense of yesterday and the day before is wrapped up in the now.

The portrait also hints to the sitters’ engaging in the everyday colour, humour and wonder found in slowing down and being present. David, Kat and their child live in Brisbane and, when not in lockdown, enjoy long walks along the Brisbane river, waving at passing City Cats and ubiquitous bin chickens.”
