Artwork Description

Tempest is a bold, energetic abstract layered with deep charcoal, teal, and stormy blues, offset by warm green and soft neutrals.

Expressive brushwork and varied textures bring a strong sense of movement, while pockets of calm space add balance. Raw, intuitive marks give the piece a grounded, emotional intensity.

Artist Bio

Dayarne Smith is an Australian abstract artist who paints with instinct, energy, and a deep love of colour. Based in Muswellbrook, in the NSW Upper Hunter, she works from her home studio, surrounded by the ever-changing rural landscape. Her paintings are bold, layered, and expressive—imagined places that feel familiar but can’t be pinned down.

She works primarily with acrylic and mixed media, letting each painting take shape as she goes. There’s no strict plan, just a process of layering colour, texture, and movement until the work finds its own rhythm. It’s less about capturing a scene and more about translating a feeling—resilience, discovery, the tension between chaos and calm.

Whether drawing from the rugged coastline, her own backyard, or fleeting moments of light and hope, Dayarne’s paintings are personal but open-ended, inviting viewers to find their own connection. At the heart of it all is colour—bold, intuitive, and full of life.
