Negative painting is where you start with the darks, and your background (in this case, the sky) goes on last. I love the transparency I can achieve painting in this way, and it's just so intense! The layers in this work range from super thin paint swiped across and rubbed into the surface, through stencilled textures and matte finishes. Some of those white squiggly bits are from a stencil I cut based on my own thumbprint.
