Artwork Description

Acrylic on linen, ready to hang.

Signed on the front.

During June 2022 Brisbane activists marched in their thousands demonstrating sisterhood and solidarity with the people of America who had lost their right to legal, safe abortion with the overturning of Roe v Wade. Kristin Perissinotto, Founder and CEO of Cheek Media Co., spoke passionately at the King George Square rallies on the need to defend and extend the abortion-care rights so recently granted in Queensland (2018). Kristin is here pictured against banners carried by supporters during the rallies. She crushes underfoot a wire coat-hanger, abortion instrument of desperate, unenviable choice and a repulsive symbol of the failures of governments worldwide to recognise that all persons with a uterus must be granted full rights to autonomy over their own bodies. She is backed by the banners of those who marched the streets with her.
