A country kid’s first experience of the ocean never having seen it before is hugely anticipated. Dad is by her side guiding and encouraging her so she knows she is safe. It’s a beautiful sunny day and the water is clean and clear. Mum is out of the shot but she is looking on at her two special people. This is one of those precious moments a parent wants to hold onto for ever.
Deb Long is now based on the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula at Goolwa Beach in South Australia and takes inspiration from the beauty of the natural environment whether it be sea or land. After many years of teaching full time retirement has now made it possible for her to continue her painting passion in her new purpose built working space. Recurring themes in Deb’s work are the stories told by nature and the use of light and shadow to enhance what is seen using acrylics and oils as her mediums of choice. She strives to capture the mood and feeling of a place through the use of colour and brushstroke, thus giving the viewer a sense of place. Her style invites the viewer to engage with the scene and enjoy the beauty that nature has to offer. Deb enjoys travelling to different places and revisiting old favourites, continuing to take inspiration from the landscape. Birds, flora and unique landscapes continue to delight the viewer.
