Welcome and thank you for visiting my profile!
I am a Sydney-based artist, living in the south-west suburbs, a place where urban and natural meet in an often exciting and aesthetic way. Since completing a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art/Visual Culture a few years ago, I began giving private art-lessons and painting half-time. Several months ago, responding to a longing for more time dedicated to making art, I made the decision to paint full-time, as I felt that this move was important to my development as an artist and to my art practice.
For me, art is an important means of connection and communication; being able to communicate visually through my art to a broader community gives me much joy. As an artist, I develop a close infinity to my surroundings through observation and depiction, and it is themes of place and identity that interest me the most and inform my work. I like the idea of landscape β as a metaphor, as a way of feeling connection and a sense of home and place, and as a construct created by our memories. Another strong fascination for me is light - the way that light imbues a scene or object with mood, emotion, meaning β and I love to explore different light-effects in my work.
My creative process varies with each work and I am currently using a variety of media, exploring different styles. My favourite periods in art history are Romanticism, Modernism (Mid-Century) and Contemporary. Currently, I have been painting using Gouache, Acrylic and Oil paints, and tend to use mediums that I feel suit the concept that I wish to convey. I enjoy the exploration and play aspects of making art, and feel that these lead to new ways of using media to create meaning in my work. Inspiration can come from literally anywhere, and when it does, I use tools such as photography and digital technologies to construct imagery and ideas into compositions, ready to paint.
My biggest hope for the future is to be able to continue doing what I love. My biggest wish is that my paintings can provide an element of beauty or emotion or meaning to somebody, thus being a way of connecting with my wider community. Blessings to you and yours.
