I’m a Brisbane based artist working mainly in oils. I create colourful expressive paintings that capture the essence of nature and convey its energy and vitality.
I am focused on Nature, in both landscapes and more intimate garden and floral paintings. As a plein air painter I like to immerse myself in my subject, surrounded by the environment that inspires me, soaking up the atmosphere and energy of a place and interpreting these feelings onto the canvas. I continue this connection with nature by working outside in my home studio, surrounded by my garden where I absorb natures energy. Using bright colours and lively brushwork I create a feeling of energy and movement and convey a sense of spontaneity and playfulness that reflects the joy I feel when painting.
I love juicy oil paint. Sometimes thick and sculptural, other times thin silky and transparent. Whilst my paintings have always been colourful, expressive and impressionistic, I am developing a more abstract quality to my work. My paintings are usually a collection of memories and reflect how I feel about a place rather than a geographical representation. The ultimate goal of my paintings is to bring attention to aspects of the world that are sometimes overlooked and share a story of beauty, joy and belonging.
I have completed fine art studies at the Brisbane Institute of Art and continue to study through workshops with well-known Artists in Australia and overseas. I am currently studying classical and contemporary oil painting techniques with an internationally acclaimed UK artist.
My paintings are held in both private and corporate collections with my commissioned works being very popular and I have won many local and international awards.
I am a permanent exhibiting artist with St Vincent’s Private Hospitals in Brisbane, this allows me to paint a dedicated collection of work each year that is displayed throughout the hospitals for the benefit of the staff, visitors and patients. I sell many paintings through this hospital program and it is gratifying to see the positive impact my artwork has on people lives.
