Artwork Description

A warm, richly imbued still life of classic fruit and flowers, in the tradition of the Dutch masters and many many artists throughout the years since. Perfect for any room in the house which requires a note of warm, classic sophistication.

Captivating reds, mellow oranges - and bright yellows - contrast vividly with the fresh juicy green of the lime fruits. You can imagine the fragrance I enjoyed while I was painting. The lingering aroma of hypnotic roses in bloom, punctuated by the crisp fresh scent of the ripe limes. Perfection...

As you might see, I’ve always loved to paint flowers and fruit, in fact I never tire of them. The first paintings I sold, many years ago, were of pears and oranges, and flowers. I paint a lot of different subjects these days, but I always love the fruit and flowers of the season.

I paint in acrylics, though all my paintings look like oil paint, as I paint using traditional oil painting techniques. I prefer acrylic paint for practicality: it is very durable and less likely to crack or fade over the years. I like the fact that it’s non-allergenic. And it dries fast, which enables me to paint layers and layers over the top of each other without waiting too long. My painting style has always been loose and impressionistic, with brushstrokes visible and a bit of texture here and there.

I wish I could say I grew the roses, but they were bought from my local shop, I couldn’t resist the colour combo. The limes come from my own tree, which I’m lucky to say is brimming with bright green jewels. I used these actual limes to make some lime curd, which is very yummy and I may do a future picture of the jar too as it is quite pretty.

This art work has a narrower profile than my thicker-edged canvases, this makes it especially suitable for hanging in a narrow hallway where people might be walking past. The edges are painted as you can see in the photos, so there is no framing required.

Thank you for looking at my picture, I hope you have enjoyed viewing it.
