Having worked for many years in medical administration, I finally took the plunge and enrolled in a Bachelor of Art and Design through Southern Cross University, completing my Honours year in 2020. I was inspired by the 1970s Pattern and Decoration Movement concept that the sensuous, pleasurable, and ornamental is every bit as legitimate, complex, and sophisticated as the icons of modernism.
Influenced by artists including Miriam Schapiro, Robert Kushner, Robert Zakanitch and Cynthia Carlson, my current work employs a reflective nostalgia that savours the story books, dolls, fabric patterns and dรฉcor of my formative years. The work is an unapologetic, unpretentious romp through a gendered, Eurocentric 1960s Australian childhood.
