Mixed Media on wood, ready to hang.
Signed on the front.
The tall elegance of the substrate reminded me of the long stemmed florals in the local florist shop I pass frequently on my shopping errands, the inspiration for the subject matter of the painting.
Green is a fairly new colour I have begun to enjoy utilising in my work, so a botanical theme pushed my creative thinking here.
Wanting to make a thick, luscious layer on the surface initially, I stuck on bits of interesting wallpaper from a deleted catalogue. Generous layers of paint, scribbles and mark making created rich surface textures. The stylized image of a flower was applied with oil stick, something I really enjoy drawing with.
The painting is serene and restful, percolating an atmosphere of peace and quietness.
