Australians throw out 2.7 million single-use coffee cups every day. 1 billion coffee cups are discarded every year. We think these coffee cups are recyclable but they are not recycled because they are lined with a thin film of plastic and most recycling systems cannot separate the cardboard from the plastic. I have included the name 'Amarra' on one of the coffee cups - it means everlasting.
