By profession, I am a conservator and restorer of fine art - and have been for some 30 years - but painting is my true love. I started painting as a boy, even attended a specialist school for Music, Art and Ballet (yes, I was in the middle group), studied Fine Art at college and then went on to complete postgraduate qualifications in Conservation of Easel Paintings, which became my career, and one I have loved.
Whenever I get a free moment, I revert to painting, immersing myself in unrestricted use of colour and form, getting back to my true self. I grew up in Africa with its wild wide spaces and developed a love of land and rugged coastlines, subjects often reflected in my art. Now I live under Australia's beautiful big skies that are a constant source of inspiration, especially the continual changes in mood, and shifts in light and shade. Occasionally, I'm struck by a moment in my immediate surroundings and will paint a simple domestic scene. All these things combines to influence my work.
I paint primarily in oils on either canvas or board, in both representational and abstract styles. I've held numerous exhibitions and have paintings in a number of private collections.
