I love the challenge of setting and dousing a spinnaker. It can go spectacularly right or devastatingly wrong! I enjoy the process and teamwork it takes to fly a spinnaker and have it set for maximum performance.
There is such a thrill of downwind steering, surfing the waves and watching the boat speed lift as it catches a powerful wave.
A fleet of yachts all flying different coloured spinnakers is such a delightful sight for spectators on the shore.
This painting is painted onto an original chart (produced in 1993) of Lifuka in Tonga. I have used the beautiful blues and aquas used in the chart. A helmsman steers the boat and a grinder helps the spinnaker trimmer as they sail to their destination.
