Artwork Description

This original, one of a kind Gyotaku piece was created by applying acrylic paint on the fish, dabbing excess paint off, laying a sheet of cotton cloth over it, and carefully rubbing the cloth onto the fish. The result is a life sized image of the fish showing incredible detail of fins and scales. The eye is painted in after the impression is obtained.

Artist Bio

I practice the Japanese art form of Gyotaku, creating life-sized images of fish and other marine and land creatures. Paint or ink is applied on the fish and a fabric is laid over the fish and rubbed in to obtain the imprint. Additional details are added after the process.
