Artwork Description

Desmond paints his place of birth, Linti, a rockhole not far from Kurlkurta. The kangaroo is his totem animal. His paintings tell the story of the Kangaroo Dreaming. Many kangaroos lived around a rockhole close to Linti. The Kangaroo spirit went into thatrockhole underground and came out through a smaller . Desmond remembers walking over the 'tali tjuta' (many sandhills) with his family from Linti to the rockhole of the Kangaroo spirit. "Lake country with long grass."

Artist Bio

Desmond was born west of Tjukurla in the bush towards Kurlkurta. When he was little he was called Leslie after his grandfather, however later he was baptised Desmond. Desmond's mother place is Pilge, and his borning place was in Linti. His father's country is between Kurlkurta and south-west of Kurlkurta. Desmond was taken to Warburton mission as a child with his family. Later he walked with his family to Docker River. After his schooling Desmond continued to live in Docker River. He moved to Tjukurla in 2018 and was given the idea to paint by his sister Faith Butler. He likes to paint his birth country.
