With Ferragosto in Five Dock fast approaching on 18 August, I wanted to honour the amazing heritage of the Five Dock area where many families from the Aeolian Islands settled with this new series.

I have been looking for the quintessential Five Dock landmark to capture for some time. Much of the Five Dock village architecture strictly speaking is in need of some TLC, but what it lacks in aesthetics and refinement, it definitely makes up with gritty authenticity and heart - and some great food.

After much deliberation, I picked the iconic Raineri continental deli as the first in this series, and it's hard not to see why.

As with my other Sydney series, I focus on capturing the distinguishing architectural features and details of these gems.
