From my ecologist perspective, 'Abiotic & Biotic' reflects on and highlights the sometimes fragile balance that sustains non-living and living elements of the marine environment: water caustics (sunlight & currents), lined-patterns (connection & interdependence within ecosystems), colour gradient (water health changes & environmental shift). Five of the native species most found dead due to the algal bloom are intertwined within: bluefin leatherjacket, surf crab, ornate cowfish, southern fiddler, weedy seadragon. The circular canvas is a nod to the cycles & flow of ecology.
