Artwork Description

Im usually not a still life artist, but these boots reminded me of my trekking boots. My trekking boots could tell you a few stories from Vietnam, Thailand, Israel, Europe and many parts of Australia.
They wore the beating of the sun, were saturated by rain, covered in mud but they always kept my feet dry and comfortable. And after a cleanup they were ready for the next adventure.

Artist Bio

I started my artistic adventures when I was very young. From loving the feeling of mud, making mud pies and watching my artist aunt work, forming the most amazing shapes from lumps of clay, enamelling, drawing and painting.
At 4 my grandmother started to teach me to knit. A few years later my mum started teaching me to crochet hence my love of textures came into being.
Embroidery gave me the start to making pictures using different media. I combined threads with leaves, beads, old clothes torn into pieces to work with.
Then there was drawing, another early art love, and I still do pencil artworks.
Pencils gave me my start with colour.
Adding it all together with natural materials, I started weaving with ivy, vines I don’t always know the names of, palm and raffia.
I was mostly self-taught until the last four years. Having never done a formal educational course in the arts I wanted instruction and my desire to learn and explore has never diminished, only grown.
I am fortunate enough to have moved out of Sydney and discovered some amazing teachers with whom I have delved into inks, acrylics, watercolours, pastels, charcoal and more.
There is no favourite. It depends on what I want to say with my art at the time.
Upcycling or reusing materials combined with paints, inks, natural materials….these aspire to be combined with the thoughts, feelings and experiences of life, along with the beauty of nature, the senses are to be appreciated.

I have been fortunate to receive a number of awards for my paintings and weaving both locally and internationally. I have participated in group exhibitions for both my weaving and paintings. And I had a hugely successful solo exhibition at Blackstone Gallery 2023. I enjoy teaching others the various ways in which you can use foraged materials so workshops became a natural progression. Galleries and exhibitions I have participated include Ferry Artists, Wisemans Ferry, CStudios, Newcastle, Blackstone Gallery, Newcastle, Brunswick Street Gallery Melbourne, Newcastle Art Space, Newcastle, Coldstream Gallery Ulmarra, NSW, Scultpures At Scratchley, Newcastle, Roadside Gallery, Wollombi, Bnei Brith, Sydney, Broughton House, Maitland.
