Artwork Description

Due to my inability to travel this painting was inspired by my imagination of what it is like at the beach.

Artist Bio

Dianne Falzon is an Australian artist with a background in craft. Jewelry and wearable artworks form part of the artist’s practice, alongside acrylic painting. In her current practice, Dianne uses thick, saturated layers of paint to express stylized scenes of wildlife and human figures. She is liked for the loose, gestural quality of her paintings, and the way she embraces vivid, highly saturated hues. The artist’s current portfolio features paintings of beaches populated with swimsuit-clad revelers, as well as portraits and studies of birds that call the same beaches home. Looking at some of these works, you may be reminded of Penny Prior, in the way that Dianne seeks to capture a bright, beachy tone, rather than the precise details of her subjects. In large paintings of multiple subject's the artist shows off a painting style that leans almost into pointillism, recalling the densely peopled scenes that Georges Seraut was famous for.

From the heart of Dianne Falzon:
From my first art lesson in Primary School, I began my love of art, crafts, pottery, sewing my own designs of maternity & girls clothes (I brought up four daughters) and made many wedding outfits (not all were for my two failed marriages!), hat decoration, tile printing, wooden earring making & painting (literally hundreds of them). I tried quilting, and I spent many hours sewing costumes (thousands of beads & sequins LOL).

My greatest passion has mainly been acrylic painting on stretched canvas, then charcoal drawings, ink & watercolor paintings. There are many mores art & crafts that I have dabbled in over my many years.

I was given a bad hand in life. From the beginning, my childhood was horrendous with a mother who didn't like me, even as a small child! I still remember being very quiet. As a child, I received an Acquired Brain Injury, along with mild to chronic illnesses & disabilities throughout my entire adult life. I spent many long months in hospital with medical complications and high risk pregnancies. My son was my first pregnancy. Born full-term, he was breech and small. Unfortunately he wasn't strong enough and sadly died at birth. Through these difficult times I have been surrounded by great friends, mentors, neighbors and family.

These life experiences along the way - the good, the bad and the wow - have all inspired my art, how I see the world and how these many moments can be captured in a single moment on a canvas. I hope you enjoy experiencing my art as much as I enjoy creating it.
