Artwork Description

A beach just north of Perth W A, at a place called Wedge Island where we have a beach shack that my family have enjoyed for the last 40 years. So many wonderful memories, waking up early to catch the surf, braving the waves for a couple of hours, before heading back to the shack for a well earned breakfast.

The main focus of this painting are three surf breaks, capturing the transparency of the turquoise water in the face of each wave. You can see the build up of the surging ocean forming the next wave. The whitewater from the crashing waves surging toward the beach in swirling patterns of lace-like sea foam is a constantly moving image capturing the raw power and beauty of the coastline.

Western Australia is known for its beautiful beaches and fantastic surf breaks along its vast coastline with amazing range of colours from indigo, sea greens to turquoise set on creamy white sandy beaches.
This painting is a very modern, contemporary abstract work that would look fantastic hanging in your home.

Artist Bio

Dianne commenced her career as an artist at age 52, studying a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) at Curtin University. Dianne works from her studio in Mullaloo, Western Australia.

Reflecting on her journey so far, she says:

What I have learned is that there are no short cuts – you have to put in the time and do the work. Creativity is a force to be reckoned with when you are an expressive person, the nagging urge inside me compels me to make art and face that blank canvas, to extend myself and find the courage to make those first playful marks. It is like opening ‘Pandora’s Box’ of transient reflections and immediately I am engaged.

Artist Statement

My practice has developed into an emotional performance of expressive, bold application of lines, colour, texture and shape. I work from a place of imaginative play, mark making by scraping, adding and removing, using spray paint, drawing with pens, pencils and crayons. I have an intuitive dialogue with the work. I swing from impulse to a considered mark, line, shape or colour. My abstract paintings are inspired by the various environments that I have found myself in whether environmental, domestic, psychological or industrial landscapes - colours and forms drawn from the world around me and laying dormant within. I always knew there was an abstract expressionist residing within...
