Artwork Description

Julian Rocks at Main Beach, Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia

Every Summer since the kids were babes, ‘my place’ is Byron Bay. It’s where I down tools for the year just gone, recharge for a few weeks and enjoy precious family time without life’s usual demands. We often walk home from town along the beach eating our gelatos and the sunsets are just spectacular. This particular night, the pink haze all around was so incredible, everywhere you looked was a varying shade of pink, you could almost scoop it up in your hand.

Artist Bio

Creativity has always been at the heart of Dinah’s life. Growing up in a family of makers, she developed a deep admiration for her grandfather, who sourced, cut, and polished agate stones, spending many hours watching as he transformed delicate rocks into jewellery and polished pieces that were shown across the world. Those early creative experiences have shaped Dinah to be curious, instilling a lasting love for nature—its colours, light, and all its variations.

Her travels through the landscape continue to inspire her work today. Dinah is drawn to capturing the raw beauty of the natural world, especially the warmth of light and the way it reflects across native flora, shapes, and forms of the land. Working primarily in acrylics for their immediacy, she also experiments with oils and mixed media. Her paintings are often informed by en plein air studies, where quick marks and colour notes become the foundation for larger, semi-abstract works created in her home studio.

For Dinah, painting is both grounding and restorative. Time spent still in nature brings her peace, while exploring new places—whether along her local bayside islands or further afield—fills her with joy. Through her art, she seeks to share this sense of calm and colour, offering viewers a way to bring the beauty of nature into their own spaces.
