The Magenta Phalaenopsis On A Book Stack

This piece was inspired by my beautiful phalaenopsis orchid when it bloomed for approximately three months and became a focal point in my studio. Here it sits on a stack of predominantly penguin books that I found at a local thrift shop as well as the Clarissa Pinkola Estes book, one of my favourites.

This piece is created using both watercolours and watercolour pencils.

Dominika is an artist living in the Yarra Valley. Drawing inspiration from her garden and the beautiful surrounds, she has a particular passion for representing house plants, flowers and treasures from her various collections. 'I find inspiration everywhere and am influenced by nature, my garden, and the changing seasons. I find there is beauty in every stage of the life cycle, whether it be the closed bud of a flower, a deteriorated sea shell or an autumn leaf. My main challenge being that time is limited and of all my ideas, only some will find their way to paper! My art practice is my meditation, my connection to the earth, to my family, and at times it is all encompassing in the most beautiful of ways'.
