Artwork Description

Inspired by Carmen Miranda, this piece is from my "Vasehead" series. In place of fruit, Carmen holds a bowl of Cactus flowers and chain of heart plant above her head, both plants that thrive under my "not so green thumbs.
This work is 30cm x 30cm with a 5cm white surround.

Artist Bio

Donna Legovini is a contemporary figurative painter and printmaker who has lived and worked in Streaky Bay region, for the past 30 years. Until recently, she worked as a secondary art teacher, but since retiring in 2021 has been able to dedicate more time to her art practice.
Most of Donna`s work is inspired by the snippets of beauty witnessed in everyday life and often display strong coastal connections. For most of her life she has resided on the West Coast of Eyre Peninsula. She is deeply connected to this environment and her work is strongly inspired by its local landscapes, sweeping open beaches, vast open spaces and forever changing skies. Using local landscapes, found objects, flora and fauna as the impetus, her final images are pieced together in imaginative, often surreal looking arrangements which display strong narrative elements or historical references. Her smaller still life paintings frequently combine environmental elements with objects that speak of her domestic life, as well as her love of colour, pattern and arrangement. Donna`s strong sense of design in the overall presentation of her work is abundantly evident in her linoprint pieces. She works from a small home studio which often spills over to the kitchen bench during the printing process.
