Artwork Description

I noticed this unusual shaped tree on a walk in Willagee WA. I believe it is a Salmon Gum.
After some rain, and when the tree is wet, the salmon pink colour becomes very vibrant.

Artist Bio

About me -

The natural environment inspires me to paint and features prominently in my works. I am passionate about painting wildlife, particularly birds and landscapes from my home country Australia, as well as from the New England area of the USA where I recently lived.

I studied art at the Queensland College of Art in Australia and worked for many years as a graphic designer. I have also taught children's art classes in Perth Western Australia. When not painting I enjoy reading, sailing, hiking in the mountains and photography.

About the Art -

I paint with acrylic, watercolour and oils and also enjoy experimenting with new techniques like fumage and mixing various media. When painting with oil, I prefer to build up the image using a layering approach rather than the thicker impasto technique. As well as using rich colours, I like to produce art that tells a story.

Achievements -

My artwork has been selected for a number of juried shows such as the RAA&M National show in Rockport Massachussets, and I have won awards for my artwork in New England and Australia.
