Artwork Description

The Vibrant Rose is a special piece that took 12mths to complete. Each rose taking at least a day to do. The intention of this piece is to show how we are all different but all special in our own way. Hence the name ‘The Vibrant Rose’. DMR’s inspiration was a challenge she set herself to paint Roses for a whole year, thus banishing herself to her studio as a way of disciplining her craft. DMR adds a recycled piece of art to every painting this one being no exception. Hidden in one of the Roses is a tip of a paint tube. The black glitter background a way to make the canvas look like old Hollywood material.

Artist Bio

Donna Marie Racovalis begun to paint in secret, all arts hidden from her husband and extended family until her nephew located the paintings and then her sister urged Donna to take them to the local gallery in Sorrento which proved to be a defining crux upon the revolution of her artistry success. Donna found water, spirituality and solitude there. We can recognise dwellers of those surrounding her art, such as dragonflies, whales and water scapes.
The healing Donna has found within the deliverance of her spirituality and craft is also transcended to those who are fortunate enough to be in her presence or view the brilliance and depth of her creations. Donna’s vast knowledge has allowed her to stand at the helm of many students. She has accumulated decades of teaching others which includes a role at Box Hill Institute, the continuing pleasure and success of her studio and too an outstanding list of achievements.
Donna Marie Racovalis is an abstract dimensional artist who loves to make people smile with her art. She enjoys incorporating manmade materials into her craftsmanship and has created magnificent, vibrantly energetic pieces which are luminous, multi-textured and timelessly modern. An impressive curriculum vitae also includes a short residency on the international cruise ship ‘Royal Caribbean’ as a drawing teacher, a role within a media commercial for CAE and too various sponsorships.
Most recently, Donna’s ‘Colour In Your Life’ (which is a television presentation) was selected to be placed into a titanium plate and onto a time capsule, with three hundred other artists' presentations to be launched unto the South Pole of the Moon, with the assistance of NASA’s viper rover aboard SpaceX Polaris rocket.
Donna’s subjects are brought to life with the vivid energy of all she ever was and is. Her extensive collection of works includes giant whales breaching, jellyfish, dragonflies, bugs, flora, beach scenes and much, much more. She investigates her subjects' struggle for survival and tells their story through her art, giving them a voice some viewers may never have heard. Dimensional marine paintings include resin eyes and computer chips or wires too which emanate their challenges, environment, fears and/or history. The subjects' eyes are truly the windows of their souls, portholes to previous adventures.
Donna cherishes being able to portray via her artistry, designs that convey a strong environmental message. She intends to inspire and inform whilst bringing joy and a sense of hope to those who are fortunate to witness her gift. Donna’s works are finished with a distinct and unique signature comprised of recycled objects sunk into resin she has developed into the storyteller of immense depths. She is a flamboyant, colourful, fun dimensional visual artist who grew up in the western suburbs of Victoria. A self-taught artist who spent much of her childhood outdoors with a natural empathy for creatures of all sorts, this would play out in her works as she begun painting creatures at a young age.
DMR’s moto is “If  I can make people smile when they see my work, I’m doing my job right.”
