Artwork Description

This listing is for a print of painting is of a young Palestinian Australian activist sitting at the the 24/7 picket outside Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's office in Marrickville, Sydney, known as Little Palestine Outside Albo's. I painted this young woman as a representative of the Australian Palestinian community.

I have pained her in a blue hijab to bring attention to her face but also to remind Christians of Mary and that the hijab is not something we should feel threatened by. The blue welcomes the viewer because it is familiar iconography to so many of us.

A young woman in a blue hijab sits on a black street bench beneath a tree. There is a yellow cushion on the bench which contrasts with the black. The girl wears a scarf with a keffiye print. Behind the girl is a green hedge and blue sky. To the left a Palestinian flag billows in the breeze behind her, on the right a kite with long tails hangs from the tree.

The vigil has now been mostly removed. This art will serve as a reminder.

100% of profits will be donated to help affected Palestinians in Australia, UNRWA, and to APAN to voice concerns and bring attention to Palestinian rights.

High Quality art print on German acid free paper. Size is approximately A3 but will have to be trimmed to fit an A3 frame (it is a little wide) or custom framed.

Artist Bio

I am an artist based in Sydney. I mainly work with acrylics. I learned art as a child and teenager and took part in a few local competitions. As an adult I took a long break from art specifically painting, only drawing a few portraits here and there. I have recently returned to painting to help me process deep feelings and draw attention to important issues through art. I believe artists have a responsibility to comment on society. I wanted to put something out there that is not just more of the same. I wanted to make people think as I believe art should.

Commissions
I am open to do commissions, please send me a message. Commission requests should be on similar themes or styles to what you see on my profile and can be either in acrylic or pencil or graphite. I am not working in oils at the moment. Commissions price will be based on artwork size, but I can not paint anything bigger than 40x50 cm at this stage due to time commitments. If you want a larger artwork, the wait for the finished work will be very long so I would rather not make a commitment for larger pieces.
