Artwork Description

Elaine has inherited the tjukurrpa (dreaming) from her grandmother, acclaimed artist Mrs N. Bennett, at a place called Ontulu which is between Kaltukatjara and Warakurna on the tiT/WA border. This site holds an important waterhole where a wanambi (rainbow serpent) lives. "She knows my name, my grandmothers' names, my whole family's names. We sing inma (traditional song) for that place" says Elaine, demonstrating the deep connection between these caretaker families and the ngura (Country) they belong to. Elaine paints this waterhole, as well as the creeks and ancestral beds and soakages which surround it.
