These two Hyacinth Macaws were sitting preening on their perch in Hawaii when I visited many years ago. I took a photo on slide film and forgot about it...then years later I found the slide and managed to make a print of it for reference. Not a good one but enough to work from. The colour was irresistable. So I tried a miniature in watercolour (8x8cm) which worked out ok. Now even more years later I thought I'd try it bigger and in Artist quality coloured pencil ......over 23hours (in short bursts to avoid hand cramps) here it is.
Bliss!

Artwork Description
Artist Bio
Born in NSW, I grew up in Sydney and have drawn and painted since childhood. I won 1st prize for painting at age 7, and never stopped painting or drawing. I studied watercolour, composition and life drawing at East Sydney Tech. (Before it was TAFE!) then trained in an illustration studio doing line and tone illustrations for newspaper advertising.
In the early eighties I exhibited and sold many small watercolours at the" Art in the Gardens ' exhibition that was held every Sunday along the railings of Sydney's Botanic gardens. My favourite subjects are mostly landscapes, water or interesting plants or flowers.
